Cheap Unlocked iPhone 3G

Those interested in owning an iPhone 3G become obsessed with the acquisition of an unlocked unit to avoid the required contract with AT & T that locks them in for two years. They consider the requirement exploitation and the term or duration a burden. Probably however, these users also find AT & T’s monthly fee steep. 

There is already a large number of unlocked iPhone 3G in the U. S.  Apple believes that a fourth of the original iPhone released in the U. S. were not registered with AT & T, believing also that these were shipped overseas and unlocked. Unlocking an iPhone 3G was a gainful venture before the phone was sold overseas.

Hackers have found ways to unlock the iPhone 3G, releasing the software for this even in the internet so that others may use it or improve on it. They have become so skillful and their information gathering so accurate that the program pre-installed on the new iPhone 3G was cracked within hours of its release. One other source is AT & T itself whom you pay the remainder of the contract life and a termination fee in order to legally unlock the phone. This of course becomes expensive as you pay all these apart from the unit’s cost. There are sources on the other hand for “never locked” models.  These are countries such as France and Hong Kong where Apple is required not to lock the phones and from where the units are re-imported. This is also not cheap as this comes with a premium. Those outside of the US generally have more choices and it is hoped that Americans will have more options in the future as well.

If Apple lives up to its announcement that they will have a few of the officially unlocked iPhone 3GS for sale, then this should add to the sources of unlocked iPhones.  

Is there any benefit derivable from an unlocked iPhone 3G that is not available from a locked unit?  Perhaps none, other than the freedom of switching from one service provider to another and the psychological effect that such freedom brings. While not determinable in real terms, the feeling of helplessness as in a contract that is imposed on you but can do nothing about can put pressure on you.  

The iPhone 3G whether brand new or used, comes in different prices depending on the model, length of use, and physical condition. Considering the availability of choice, it becomes normal to look for a cheap unit. What this really means is that whose qualities are acceptable to the buyer and the cost is both acceptable and affordable to him.
