My son’s birthday falls on Halloween. Usually, we celebrate his birthday before October 31st so that it will still be a joyous and wholesome party. However, last year, my husband and I decided to experiment and celebrate our son’s 4th birthday on the actual day of Halloween. We thought that it would be interesting to have a Halloween themed party.

Before planning the party, we first asked our son if he liked the idea; and to our surprise, he loved it! He was really excited about the party and was already thinking of his costume. We told him that he could be any character he wanted since it was his birthday. He had so many characters on his mind (most of which are superheroes), but in the end he decided to be the Black Spiderman. My husband and I decided to order our son’s costume a month before so we can troubleshoot if any problem arose (poor fit, etc.). So, I went online and looked at several Halloween costume websites. Aside from the cool look of their Black Spiderman costume, they had matching accessories for it (gloves and boot cover) and the price was very reasonable. When the costumes came, we were very pleased with them and luckily did not have any problems.

Anyway, we continued the preparations for the party and started discussing the decorations and food. I took responsibility for the food and my hubby and his friends were in charge of the decors.

October 31st came and my son woke up early to help me and his dad. I can really see the excitement in his face, so even if I was feeling a bit stressed, I just showed a big smile on my face. I let the little guy help me with baking. The menu I prepared included the following: Halloween Pumpkin chocolate cake, “Bloody” strawberry juice for the kids, Red cocktail for the adults (I’m still looking for a good recipe), spider cupcakes, bat sandwiches, and some normal food like spaghetti, fried chicken, and finger food for the grown-ups. We set the party at 4 pm so the kids can go straight to trick or treating afterwards. All of the people we invited came, and there wasn’t anyone who was not in a Halloween costume. The party was such a blast! Everyone, especially the kids had a great time. They enjoyed the creepy looking food and decorations, as well as the Halloween costumes of their friends and their parents. My hubby and I were very happy that we went through with my son’s Happy Halloween Birthday, and we’re thinking of doing it again this year.
